April 21, 2010 — National Emergency Grant for American Samoa

Dear Congressional Staff:

Here is information about a supplemental $16,571,738 National Emergency Grant (NEG) award to assist clean-up and recovery efforts in the wake of the tsunami that struck America Samoa on September 29, 2009.

Description of NEG

    The Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration will award the American Samoa Government an incremental NEG of $16,571,738 to continue clean-up and recovery efforts for about 2,200 temporary jobs. On October 19, 2009 a NEG was approved for up to $24,857,608, with $8,285,870 released initially. This incremental and final NEG award will bring total NEG funds awarded for clean-up and recovery efforts to $24,857,608.
    The geographic areas covered by this funding are: All islands in the United States Territory of American Samoa.
